North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service are committed to delivering, in partnership with others, a fully integrated, protection, prevention, and intervention service that reduces the risk to the community from fire and other emergencies.

We provide advice, education and community safety initiatives to reduce the incidence of fires, road traffic accidents and other life threatening hazards. We put a lot of effort into trying to stop incidents happening. This reduces injuries and loss to the individual and community as well as reducing the cost of the emergency intervention aspects of our work. Our work is not confined to fire related prevention and we work with partners on a variety of initiatives that contributes to overall community safety.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have a vision of saving 125 lives over the 10 year period from 2004 to 2014, this is summarised simply as 125 Alive.

The Fire and Rescue Service in York and North Yorkshire hope to achieve this by a steady reduction in fatalities from fires and Road Traffic Accidents over this 10 year period.

In support of our 10 year vision we aim to reduce accidental dwelling fires, deaths and injuries, as well as reduce the number of deaths and injuries from road traffic collisions.

We also work hard to reduce deliberate fires and unwanted fire calls, whether they be from automatic fire alarm systems, that are faulty or inadequately maintained, or hoax calls from anti-social behaviour.

We are proud to work with a range of partners, including the Police, Primary Care Trusts, local authorities and private businesses, who all have the general aim of making York and North Yorkshire a safe and welcoming place to live, visit and invest in.
