Who We Are
Safer York Partnership is the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership for the City of York. It was established in 1999 following the introduction of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Safer York Partnership’s vision is for people to be able to live, work or visit the City of York without fear for their own safety or the safety of others and to secure sustainable reductions in crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime.
The Community Safety Strategy for York is the product of both multi-agency data analysis of crime and disorder intelligence and information and community consultation conducted through the Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams. The new 2011-14 plan outlines the seven priorities:
Autocrime - reducing the volume of vehicle-related offences committed around York
Burglary - reducing the number of house, shed/garage and commercial burglaries in York, includes information of Safer York discounted shed security equipment
Business Crime - reducing the volume of business-related crimes including shoplifting, burglaries and fraud.
Cycle Theft - reducing the number stolen and number of offenders stealing bikes in York
Drugs and Alcohol – reducing the harm caused by substance misuse.
Safer Neighbourhoods – including tackling anti-social behaviour and road safety
Violent Crime – including alcohol related violence in the night time economy and domestic violence
Safer York Partnership is governed by a Board comprised of a number of related responsible authorities. The Chair of the Board is Superintendent Lisa Winward. Membership of the board includes: North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Police Authority, City of York Council, North Yorkshire Probation, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, York and North Yorkshire Primary Care Trust; with the Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber and the National Treatment Agency appearing on the Board as advisors.
