Network 2

Network 2 provides voluntary mentoring for young people suffering from social and school exclusion, exhibiting patterns of offending behaviour or at risk of offending. Individual development plans are identified and implemented with support to young people.

Network 2 has been active in the York area for over five years and has enjoyed considerable success in this period. It has proven to be effective especially in working with young people aged 10-17 years who for one reason or another have experienced difficulties leading to social exclusion. When young people have agreed to engage with the project, work with them has assisted in re-inclusion and diverting them from offending.

It is not a punitive project and is effective when young people voluntarily engage in work with them. Work with individual young people can last up to twelve months. It is the hope of Network 2 that at some stage in the future the service will be enhanced with the development of a parent support group to work with the parents of individuals involved in the scheme. Young people are assisted through one to one support, occasional groupwork, advice and information, practical help and other forms of support.

Parents can refer young people to the scheme if they have particular worries. Parents interested in the work of Network 2 can also volunteer to become mentors. Network 2 are based at:
