York Handypersons scheme

The Handyperson service will be part of the already established Home Improvement Agency in York, which has experience of offering services to elderly, disabled and vulnerable people.

The service will offer a selection of security measures such as window and door locks, door chains, spy holes, mortice bolts, patio door bars, gate hasps and staples with padlocks. This list is not exhaustive as the service will be property specific and security needs identified and carried out accordingly.

The Handyperson service will be targeted to 6 designated areas in York which are Clifton, Holgate, Guildhall, Micklegate, Heworth and Fishergate. These areas have been shown to be the most affected by burglary and related crime. The service will not be exclusive to these areas, as it will be based on client need, but these areas are where it is expected that 90% of the work will be completed and where the major promotion will take place, as the requirement for target hardening has been identified.
