Who to Report to
If you feel threatened or are in immediate danger, you should dial 999 and ask for the appropriate emergency service.
All fire related incidents should be reported to the Fire Service. If you require the Fire Brigade - always dial 999, even if you are not sure if you have a real emergency - still dial 999. For more information www.northyorksfire.gov.uk
Noisy neighbours/noise-related incidents should be reported to the Council Environmental Protection Team on 01904 551 555
As a guide the following incidents should be reported to the York Customer Centre on 01904 551 550
- Graffiti
- Illegal / obstructive parking
- Abandoned vehicles
- Damaged / faulty street furniture
- Fly Tipping
- Littering
- Fly Posting
- Stray animals / animal related problems
The following types of incidents should be reported to North Yorkshire Police via the switchboard on 0845 60 60 247
- Taking / selling illegal drugs
- Begging
- Drunken / rowdy behaviour
- Fighting and threatening behaviour
- Verbally intimidating behaviour
- Abusive calls
- Joy riding / racing vehicles
- Motorcycles on pavements and public land
- Vandalism / criminal damage
To help us deal effectively with all reported incidents, agencies may need assistance from the community. This could be in the form of providing a statement or filling out a diary sheet to evidence the problems you are experiencing. The agency representative who deals with your case will advise you on this procedure.
