Operation Spoke
Operation Spoke is a partnership led operation aiming to property mark a large proportion of bikes in the City of York. With the success of other property marking schemes at reducing the overall levels of aquisitive crime, it has been decided to expand this concept to cycles.
The benefits of marking your bike are that it can be easily identified by officers should it ever be stolen or go missing. Easy identification means that cycles can be quickly re united with their rightful owners and thieves can be quickly arrested and brought to justice.

Your bike will be given a small unique marking that will be linked to your details and your cycle details within the Operation Spoke database. Alongside this every cycle registered as part of Operation Spoke will also be registered with IMMOBILISE, a national property register. This means that should your cycle leave the York area it can be quickly identified by officers from other police forces. It will also give you the opportunity to register other valuable items such as computers, mobile phones etc using the free IMMOBILISE service.
The marking of your cycle will take less than a minute and you will not need to do anything else. Your details will not be used for any other purpose other than the prevention and detection of crime.
Throughout York a number of registration events are being organised by your Safer Neighbourhood teams. Simply bring your cycle to one of the events listed below and it will be registered and recorded. The process is completely free.
